2007 Sailing Season Schedule

 The preliminary 2007 schedule is out! You can download a .pdf file from the club website, or an updated calendar file that you can import into Outlook.

 Between the Spring Meeting on May 5^th and the AGM in October, the summer itinerary includes:

• 16 Wednesday Race nights, split into two (not 4) series of 8 race nights each.
• Series One will run from May 23 to July 11, with two races/night planned for June 6, 13, 20, 27. This first series could have up to 12 races. Your score will be your total points less two throw-outs in this first series.
• Series Two will run on 8 Wednesday nights between July 18 to September 5. Six of your 8 race scores will count.
• The purpose of this change of series from 4 to 2 is to allow everyone more flexibility in club competition.

 Five regattas are on the schedule:

• Solstice Regatta on June 15-17
• Commodore’s Cup on July 14
• White Sails Mini Regatta on July 28
• Short Course Regatta on August 25
• End of Summer Hummer on September 7-9

 Five Saturday Fun Events with new and exciting formats:

• June 2 and 23
• July 1, 7 and 21
• August 11

 And if that isn’t enough, we will have two White Sails Series to recruit new sailors and introduce the community to easy, informal learn-to-race skills drills and mini-racing on these dates:

• June 4, 11 and 25
• July 9, 16 and 23

 The Dinghy Sub-Club has planned to host a CYA Learn-To-Sail course for youth on July 23-27. Note that the White Sails mini-regatta will be on July 28.

 The Big Road Trip to the Montana Cup on August 3-5 will be earlier than in previous years.

 Launch early and haul out late to enjoy all the fun! Watch for notices from the Social Committee’s matching receptions, BBQs and socials.

Subject: Dryland Training Opportunity

Hello Sailors,

Calgary Yacht Club has asked that we circulate this invitation to dryland training sessions.

We have received interest in hosting another Dryland Training Program. This years' program is based on the provision of a training program guide and two (monthly) training program reviews with the sailors. We have arranged Peak Power at SAIT to provide this service for us again this year.

It will be strongly recommended that sailors do dryland three times per week. The program was designed to show the training required and allow sailors to undertake the training at a facility convenient to them. Sailors can make arrangements with each other to set up training times and places.

Services:

1. Two Monthly Training Programs

2. Two Sessions with trainers to outline and run a training session:
March 08th 6:00 - 7:30 and April 12th 7:30 - 9:00 Costs: $75 (may vary
depending on the number of sailors)

Options:

1. Tuesday nights March 13th at 7:30 and April 10th at 7:30 vs Thursday nights

2. We could set up a weekly program with Peak Performance. This would mean 6 additional 90 minute sessions on Thursday nights. If 8 sailors agree to this, the additional cost would be $90 for a total of $165. In other words, the costs would be equivalent to a gym drop-in fee but there would be a training to run the sailors through their workouts.

Please let Fie know:

1. Confirm if you will participate in the Program by March 04th

2. Let us know if you absolutely cannot make Tuesday or Thursday nights - so we can set the dates.

3. Let us know if you would participate in a weekly option

We will review the program and consider extending it into the May training camps as well.

Subject: Looking for old used sails

Hello clubs and sailors,

I am looking for used sail material for a young ladies art project. All those sails that were replaced by sails that have themselves been replaced.
You will never use them again and they are only taking up valuable space in your basement or garage. Please let me know and we can put them to good used.

The next SLSC Exec. meeting is March 7 at the offices of Howard & Associates (Formerly Anderson Preece & Assoc.) in Red Deer at 7:00 PM. Exec meetings will continue every 4 weeks after that.

Its not to early to mark in June 5 for the spring meeting.

June 26 is the date for a Race Management course
