It is my unofficial understanding that Dennis Ethier negotiated lots of berggy bits to capture the Dinghy trophy, while and Bill Young, Barry Tee, Dennis & Linda Ethier have have done the same for the Keelboats. All on the same evening, Wednesday May 9.

Question? Does that mean Dennis gets 1 bottle of Mt Gay rum and shares another bottle with his Geryling crewmates?
A whole bottle for dumping a dinghy in the water & running over to the other side of the lake while the rest of us have to share a bottle with our crewmates. I don't think this is fair. Fair would be for the winner of the dinghy fleet to get a bottle of beer! :-)))

It just goes to show you that a sailor will do almost anything to get an extra ration!

Last year our club acquired an inboard powerboat and the consensus was that it worked very well. It has almost (if not all) of the tools required to run our races properly, and makes life a lot easier for the personnel aboard. Bearing in mind that we are sailors & not power boaters, you might have a bit of a learning curve if you are assigned CB duties this summer! Graeme & Trevor are having a session on Wed. May 16 to acquaint members to the operation of the boat. If you are on the Duty Roster http://www.sylvansailing.com/Fleet_1_Racing/Duty%20Roster.pdf, plan to be at the dock no later than 7:00 PM to learn how to operate it.

A preface to this announcement is that if you do not want to, or can't, come to the RM course, please try to come out on your boats on Sunday to help give the recruits some practice. It will also be a good time for you to practice your starting technique that you have been thinking about all winter

Caretakers of Marina Bay

Our Marina Bay friends, June Molger and Rob Remmer, have left Marina Bay to spread goodwill & cheer and many many good stories amongst the indigenous peopkes of New Zealand, Thailand, Mesopotamia, and numerous other locations. Rob & June were good friends of the SLSC and we wish them many happy travels. At the same time. Bill & Barb Hindle who have painted, re-painted & repainted again, many of the homes in Marina Bay, looked after the flowers & shrubs, the "clubhouse" , and have always been there to help our club when they can, have retired (again!!) to enjoy somewhat less than greener pastures in Arizona! Don't ask me ...I don't know why!
Stepping up to the plate to serve every need & wish of the SLSC is Dean & Debbie Watkiss and Susan Samson. So we are in really good hands again. FYI, Dean is the grumpy one, Debbie is the busy one & Susan is going to be the next Mayor of Sylvan Lake!

Club members need to be aware that it is important to keep the gate closed. During the past week, it was left open by one of YOU, and 3 youngsters passed thru the gate. It closed behind them, and was close to 2 hours before they were noticed by a homeowner and were let out. They were just inquisitive children & should not have to pay a penalty for your negligence. Are we clear about this? Consider the time it takes you to walk to the gate to let your buddy in, as opposed to being a child, in the cold, who can't get out, for 2 hours. We do have a responsibility here people. Thanks.
