Loius Vitton Racing is scheduled to be on TSN starting June 1. Right now, in the semi finals, it is
Emerates Team New Zealand - 4, Defasio Espanol - 1,
Luna Rosso - 4, Oracle BMW - 1.
First to win 5 races advances to the finals
So...it is looking like ETNZ and Luna Rosso will pair up for the final of the LV Cup, to decide who will challenge Alingi for the America's Cup, which starts June 23.

CURMUDGEON’S OBSERVATION
“You only have to do a very few things right in your life, so long as you don't do too many things wrong.” - Warren Buffett

PHRF Divisions for 2007
Div I - PHRF below 190
Div II - PHRF Above 190
Div III - PHRF above 190 NFS (ie: No Spinnaker)

Boats racing in Div III must declare to the scorekeeper, their intention NOT to race with a spinnaker. You will receive an 18 second credit to your rating when you do. Otherwise, it is assumed that you are racing with a spinnaker, you will receive a normal rating, and you will be scored in Div II. That makes it pretty impossible to even place in a race.
An NFS rating must be carried for an entire series. You cannot switch back and forth from Div II to Div III during a series, but you can switch from one series to the next.
All you have to do is stop by the Committee Boat on your first race of a series and let them know that you are sailing without a Spinnaker for that series. If you change for the next series, you must notify them again that you are sailing with a spinnaker. That's not too complicated is it?

New Website
Our new website is up and running, tho there is still lots to be done. Feel free to hit the "feedback" button and let me know if there is anything not working properly, you would like to see changed, of any info you would like to see, etc..

I was able to create a new form to register for regatta's. If you are going to compete at the Solstice Regatta, June 15 - 17, you should submit it right away.

The Members Only section is not quite right yet, but I'll get there some day!

Enjoy our Sponsors Page. We are going to work a lot harder this year to recognize the contribution these organizations/business's have made to the success of our club. You can express your appreciation by doing some business with them & thanking them when you see them next time.

CURMUDGEON’S COUNSEL
Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

Wednesday, May 23 is our first race of the Spring Series. Sailing Instructions are available on the web, http://www.sylvansailing.com/Fleet_1_Racing/2007%20WNR%20Sailing%20Instructions%20Final.htm

Of note in this series is that the RC will attempt to get off 2 races on the nights of June 20, June 27& July 4. They are the longest nights of the year, and we might as well enjoy them on the water. There are 11 races planned for the series & if we get all of them, you will have 2 discards.

Also note that combinations of Windward/Leeward and Olympic courses will take place within a series. You will have to be aware of the signals from the Committee Boat.
All boats are required to register by sailing by the C.B. for each race If you do not register, you may not get scored.

When it is your turn for C.B. duties, please try to leave the dock as early as possible to begin geting a handle on the wind direction and course lenght, before the Mark Set Boats arrive on the course. It just makes for a much better race if you have your stuff together.

If you have been granted the priveledge of C.B .Duties (its at http://www.sylvansailing.com/Fleet_1_Racing/Duty%20Roster.pdf), you should definitely consider signing up for the Race Management Course, May 26. Contact Graeme Strathdee or Dennis Ethier for further info. Having Race Management skills under your belt will serve you well on the Race Course & Peter Van Nuyden is the best instructor I have ever taken the course from. I'm sure you will get a lot out of it.

If you do not want to take the course, you can still help by being part of a fleet of boats for the attendees to start, and start, and start again. You will gets lots of practise starting.

Fleet Captain Graeme, has placed an ad in the SL Newspaper, asking people who want to Learn to Sail, Crew and Race, to come to the docks for the Monday White Sails events on June 4, 11 & 25, and July 9, 16 & 23. We are going to need some boats ready to go for those events, so if you can come out to share your experience & knowledge with what is hoped to be masses of potential new crew members, come down & help out. Its how you got started wasn't it?
